Wordier Live: 11+ Vocabulary Course

(25 customer reviews)

Wordier Live brings vocabulary learning to an online community of kids, delivered by expert tutors every week, over six weeks.

Definition:

A set of six one-hour vocabulary group classes taught live by one of our expert tutors. We aim to introduce over 20 words per 1-hour lesson.

Great for children studying for the 11+ (that’s Year 4 and above) but we always welcome younger, verbally ambitious children if they feel like they can keep up.

In these classes, kids will get:

  • 1-hour classes from just £8.16 per session
  • New vocabulary worksheets and online activities
  • Homework tasks after each session
  • Revision quizzes throughout
  • Weekly live vocabulary tournament (optional)

Why We Made It:

We’d been teaching online classes for a while and they had become really popular with kids and parents – they were asking for more! So we spent time researching techniques and finding new and better ways to expose children to a large number of words in a shorter period of time. We wanted vocab to take centre stage and give kids a chance to test out words and decode them so they can learn even more.

If you want to see how our Wordier Live sessions run, or your child simply isn’t able to make it to weekly live sessions, our recordings are also available to buy on demand.*

*Watching these sessions will be helpful, but nothing will replace joining in, being called upon in class, interacting with our tutor and getting their brain into gear each week!

  1. Susie

    Vocab classes and flashcards
The Wordier vocab classes have been invaluable for my daughter whilst preparing for the 11+. She has learnt many new words and more importantly retained them!
We also bought the flashcards which again have been brilliant and far more effective than any other flashcards we have tried. The pictures make remembering the word so much simpler.
I would highly recommend the classes and the cards.

  2. Teng Shirley

We subscribed to Wordier vocabulary courses during my son’s 11 plus preparation in year 5. He found these sessions fun, interactive and really useful.

The teacher will explain the origin of the words and allows you to workout meaning of others.

I have now subscribed to the summer booster course and continues to learn new words. As the course is online, we’re able to do this during our family holiday, which is a bonus. I would highly recommend this.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this course for?

Classes are aimed at children ages 8 to 11, with a particular focus on Year 4 and 5 students doing the 11+.

Year 6 children are also welcome to attend. Many of our 11+ students love the classes so much that they choose to stay on the course during Year 6, even after they have finished their exams.

What happens if my child doesn’t like the course?

If you find that the course isn’t right for your child at this time, you can use our Joy Guarantee to receive a hassle-free refund on the remainder of the course. Simply email us at hello@wordier.online to receive your refund.

Note: Joy Guarantee applies to Wordier Live only.

Can my Year 3 child join the classes?

We recommend our courses for anyone in Year 4 and above, mainly because they’re fast-paced, involve a fair amount of writing and it might be a little difficult for Year 3s to keep up with. But we have had some energised and ambitious Year 3s complete our courses, so if you think your child is ready, you’re welcome to give them a try. If you do, we recommend that you sit in on their first session, even if it’s just for moral support!

If the class is too challenging, you can use our Joy Guarantee to get a refund for the rest of the module. You can always rejoin when your child’s a little older, with the added benefit of seeing how it works already!

What’s the difference between Wordier Live and Wordier On Demand?

The Wordier Live courses are always delivered live with a tutor at the same time every week. This means children can ask questions and try out new words in sentences so they can get feedback and corrections when needed.

Wordier Live parents usually find that this format is more engaging for their child and, as a result, it is easier to convince the child to attend. They also appreciate having a set schedule for classes, which helps to ensure that learning stays on track.

The Wordier On Demand is the pre-recorded version of Wordier Live. The classes contain the same great content as Wordier Live but without interaction with a tutor.

Wordier On Demand parents tend to favour this format because they can go through several sessions a week rather than waiting for the next class to be held.

How does the course run?

Each weekly class is delivered live on Zoom by an experienced tutor. 24-48 hours before the class, you’ll receive the worksheets for the week as well as a short preliminary video for your child to watch.

During the class, children’s microphones are muted to avoid students shouting out or monopolising the conversation. This helps us to ensure that all children receive recognition during class and can submit an answer in their own time.

Students are encouraged to submit questions, answers and example sentences via the chat function. Our tutors then acknowledge and respond to these questions in real-time.

We recommend printing the worksheets every week, however, your child can simply use a paper and pencil to follow along if you don’t have access to a printer.

What happens if my child misses a class?

All of our classes are recorded and the recording is sent out to parents the day after the class. You can, therefore, watch the class later in the week.

All parents will receive access to the class recording, whether or not their child attended.

How does the vocabulary contest work?

From Week Two, we’ll run a 10-minute vocab contest at the end of each class, testing kids on words from the previous week. We like to encourage some friendly competition, so our top scorers are awarded with emoji medals.

Do you provide any homework?

Yes. We’ll send out a revision link for the most recent session each week – these include online games and short quizzes to help kids refresh their memories.

Is the vocab on your course the same as the words from your flashcards/workbooks?

There’s a little bit of overlap between our Wordier Live course and our Wordier Tools, but we’ve designed them so there’s lots of variation. Sometimes it’s helpful for kids to see familiar words, but we also want to give everyone lots of words to learn in the most effective way.

How many classes does my child need to do to cover all of the 11+ vocabulary?

There is no official list of 11+ vocabulary, which means that your child’s exam could technically feature any variety of words from the English language. That’s why we recommend completing as many of the Wordier courses and materials as possible. All “Wordier words” have been carefully selected from 11+ past papers, practice papers and our experience in working with over a thousand 11+ students.

Should my child complete vocabulary books from other providers in addition to using Wordier?

Wordier provides a comprehensive vocabulary system, which means children do not need to supplement their Wordier work with vocabulary books from other providers.
