Fish! The Synonym Game

(3 customer reviews)

What Is It?

A playful card deck featuring 52 different words separated into groups of four synonyms. Each card features a word in the centre with its synonyms listed in the corners so kids know which other words to look out for during the game.

Who’s It For?

Anyone can play – but we’d recommend for anyone who is 7 years old or over

Why We Made It

This is less work and more fun – a game you can play around the dinner table, on the train or when friends are over!

Description

How It Works

Use it like a traditional deck of cards – but with words! We recommend playing the game ‘Go Fish’.

  1. Shuffle the cards
  2. Deal out between 5-7 cards per player (depending on how many are in the game!)
  3. Place the rest of the cards in a pile, face down in the middle
  4. Each player can look at their own cards and can ask another player if they have a set of synonyms, e.g. attempt, endeavour, strive, try; if the other players don’t have it then they can tell that player to ‘go fish’ and take a card out of the pile
  5. The aim of the game is to get the most sets of synonyms by the time the cards have all been used.

Deck One words include: dwelling, preceding, melancholy, irate and more.

Deck Two words include: coax, bashful, contemplate, archaic and more.

Heads up: we’ve made a slight change to the packaging of our FISH! deck; so, when your order arrives, the box may be different from the ones you see in the pictures above. Rest assured, the awesome content inside remains the same.

    Fun and interesting cards
I bought 2 sets of vocabulary game cards and a set of flashcards; they are fun and interesting. Most importantly, they help children to sink in the new words they have learned

  2. Kat Hillman

The product is great. However, not enough postage was paid so we had to pay charges. Also some instructions could help for those who haven’t played, certain card games before.

Update as issues have been resolved between us and wordier review been changed to reflect this.

    Dear Kat,

Thank you very much for your feedback. I’m so sorry to hear that you experienced some disappointment with your purchase.

Unfortunately, we were informed a few days ago that a couple of our orders had incurred extra charges. We had folded the envelopes a little differently than usual, which caused some packages to exceed the Royal Mail dimensions for that parcel size. I shall issue a refund for the extra postage charges to you immediately. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I’m also sorry to hear that your order did not include the usual instructions card that comes with our Fish! products. I will email this over to you now, along with our recent blogpost on other games that can be played using your new deck.

I’m sorry again for any inconvenience caused and greatly appreciate your feedback.

Go Fish vocab game a big hit!
Excellent set of resources to help my children improve their vocabulary. My daughters especially enjoy the Go Fish game – it’s frequently requested in our house and a fun way to learn synonyms.
