Changing from the CEM to the GL 11+ Exam

Moving From CEM to GL 11+ Preparation

As you may have heard, CEM recently announced that they will not be providing physical 11+ exam papers from 2023 onwards. This affects a number of 11+ exams, including Bexley, Medway, Gloucestershire, Wolverhampton and more.

Many parents are starting to panic that they need to throw out all of their CEM material and replace it with GL material, which is not the case. Below, we’ve outlined the simple adjustments you can make to your child’s study material to ensure that all bases are covered.

The notes below are based on the GL sample papers on their website, as well as 10 years’ experience in tutoring for both the GL and the CEM exams.

Please note, however, that schools may opt to exclude some aspects of the GL syllabus or to include additional areas, like creative writing. It is, therefore, best to check your target school’s website frequently to ensure you are up to date on the latest changes.

Regardless of which exam your child is sitting, vocabulary will be a fundamental part of their 11+ preparation.

A solid vocabulary will accelerate your child’s progress across English and Verbal Reasoning.
