What Children Love About Our 11+ Vocabulary Course

We don’t like to boast but there’s a lot to love about our 11 Plus vocabulary course. As educators, we like the fact that it’s science-backed, engaging for students and easy for parents. If you ask our students, however, they’ll give you a totally different list of reasons they love our 11+ vocab course.

Read on to find out what keeps our students coming back module after module and why parents are so afraid to miss out on a place!

Reason #1: Our Online Vocabulary Quizzes

We pepper our classes with online quizzes to review new vocabulary. It’s a great way to shake things up and give children a break from writing definitions.

Children following our on-demand courses can take part in these quizzes, too. They just need to follow the prompts in the video recording.

Reason #2: Our Vocabulary Pictures

According to one of our 11+ vocabulary students, “the pictures are the best part” of our courses.

We illustrate as many words as possible during our 11+ courses. It’s all part of our multi-pronged approach to making vocabulary stick. Many of our vocabulary images end up seared in students’ brains, particularly when they’re funny or unusual!

Reason #3: The Interaction with a Vocabulary Teacher

Our students are encouraged to ask and answer questions throughout the vocabulary classes. We use a variety of different question formats so that children of all abilities and knowledge levels have the opportunity to engage.

Encouraging questions increases the children’s word consciousness, which is key if we expect them to seek out new words and definitions outside of class. These interactions help vocabulary to stick even more firmly (we weren’t kidding when we said our approach was multi-pronged!).

Reason #4: Our Weekly 11+ Vocabulary Contest

Each of our classes ends with an optional contest, which participants absolutely love. Some of them even get butterflies in their stomachs before we start!

My favourite part of the contest is how the students root for, encourage and congratulate each other. It really demonstrates the community spirit of the children on the course.

The contest is a great way to motivate children to learn new vocabulary and to teach them to keep going even when they don’t see instant results.

So, what’s the final reason children love our 11+ vocabulary course?

Reason #5: They See the Difference a Vocabulary Course Can Make

Our students’ favourite part of our vocab course that it helps them!

Our students consistently report seeing and hearing the Wordier words in their everyday lives, whether that’s when reading for pleasure, completing comprehension tasks or even on T.V. Understanding the vocabulary around them makes our students happier and more confident learners, which spurs them on to learn even more. They also start to experience success outside the course, like the student below who used “Wordier words” to help her win a creative writing competition.
